Search Continues

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit & Rescue 115 the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter from Shannon have resumed a search for an active aircraft alert beacon signal somewhere in the O’Brien’s Bridge Area in Co Clare. It is unknown at this stage as to the nature however all activation’s of emergency transponders must be fully investigated .

Search for Missing Person Near Clonlara

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit and  the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter from Shannon Rescue 115 was tasked to Clonlara to assist in the search for a missing person. The alarm was raised at 00:06am an extensive search took place but due to darkness was stood down until first light. A female in her early 50′s was recovered from the water near Ardnacrusha at mid-day. On scene were Killaloe Coast Guard

Swimmer in Difficulty near killaloe

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were alerted to a swimmer that needed assistance while on patrol in the Killaloe area. Killaloe Coast Guard responded immediately and brought the casualty to Ballina Slipway where HSE Paramedics were already in attendance due the I3 swim event. 

The casualty was taken out of the water with potential hypothermia but on inspection by paramedics was found to be a little

S92A Training at Killaloe

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit carried out an Exercise with the New S92A Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter Crew. Limerick Search & Rescue and the RNLI were part of this training session which was carried out at Ballina GAA Pitch. Training carried out were

Boat Capsizes at White Starnd Co Clare

While on scene at the recovery of the two fishermen near Spanish Point Killaloe Coast Guard Unit responded to assist three persons whose boat had capsized. All three were wearing life jackets however only one activated, the other two clung to the inflated jacket and made it to shore Killaloe Coast Guard Unit then took the casualties to White Strand to the Garda Water Unit were oxygen was

Brian Boru Tri Challenge 2012

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit Whilst covering the Brian Boru Triathlon  came across a swimmer in difficulty. The swimmer was assisted by crew and taken to Two Mile Gate from where the First Aid team took over. The swimmer had traveled from Australia and was jet lagged so could not cope with the swim, but was found to be in stable condition.

Cruiser aground on Lough Derg

Pagers were activated by Valentia MRCC Coast Guard at 16.59, Killaloe Coast Guard Unit responded and assembled at base just as Valentia stood the call down. Incident involved a Cruiser that had ran aground just off Tinaranna House, the skipper contacted Valentia of their situation and was then assisted by a passing boat which resolved the issue.

Sea Plane False Alarm

Killaloe CGU was tasked as a result of a transmission on VHF Ch 16 by a sea plane in Lough Derg area. After OiC had investigated it was found to be a false alarm due to a faulty VHF set.

Sea Kayak Solo Around Ireland

On June 4th of June departed his family home town of Cobh, Co. cork and is attempting to Sea Kayak Solo Around Ireland in under 35 days.  To meet his target he will have to cover an average of 30miles per day spending up to 12 hours in my trusty boat battling strong currents and gusting winds.

In his kayak he will carry all of the equipment he will need for the entire journey including
