On Sat 30th June at 4.48 the Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked by Valentia Marine Control Centre as a member of the public had spotted a large cruiser apparently adrift on Lough Derg south of Scilly Islands. At 4.57 the Killaloe Coast Guard launched their rescue RIB, they were on-scene beside the stricken vessel at 5.10. The cruiser with one person on board had been on route from Killaloe to Dromineer when it suffered engine failure, it had been blown close to the shore before the anchor dug in. The vessel was brought under tow to Derg Marina where it was moored at 18.20.
Remember; if you spot someone in trouble on the water, on the cliffs or coast, even if you just 'think' they may be in trouble, dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
