The pictured Flying Boatplane, The Short Sandringham S-25 called The Southern Cross was based in Killaloe from July 1976 to August 1977. Operated by Aer Arann, Charles Blair, former USAF pilot and husband of actress Maureen O'Hara based the 42-seater flying-boat at Killaloe and carried tourists to the south and west coasts. At a fare of £15, passengers were treated to the novelty of two bars on board.

Back in 1986 when we opened our new ballroom (where our restaurant is today), We named it “The Blair Suite” in his honour. Maureen O Hara personally performed the official opening for us also.
