Previous Lakeside Hotel owner, Hector Newenham, introduced water skiing to Ireland right here in Killaloe in 1956. By 1958 it had become a regular sport here and spread to the rest of Ireland. World Water skiing Championships were held here in the 1960’s. This photograph was taken from just below the Lakeside Hotel, where the marina is now.
