Please join us in welcoming Donagh O'Sullivan to the Clarisford parkrun Director team…a role he was so easily cajoled into! Donagh will be heading up Clarisford parkrun on Saturday 29th so drop by to wish him luck!
We asked Donagh about his running history, why parkrun has been so popular in Killaloe Ballina and what he is looking forward to most about taking over the helm as event director!
“On initially hearing that a parkrun event was coming to my local Clarisford Park in Killaloe, I was interested from a personal point of view in getting out routinely on Saturday mornings to do a 5km run. I don't have a long history of running and only really took up regular running earlier this year with the Boru Tri Club. We use Clarisford Park on Thursday nights for run training but the parkrun idea sounded like an idea that would be of interest to an even wider group of people in the community. This in particular got me hooked on the idea that it is an event worth nurturing and supporting in whatever way I could.
I have always found sport to be a great social outlet and the idea of having young & old, people of all fitness levels & abilities come together to take part in a 5km run in a safe and beautiful environment seemed like a great idea to me! It is a fun, healthy and social event each and every week and I hope that as Run Director I can build on the ethos of volunteerism in the community + continue to grow this great event for everyone to enjoy.” — at Clarisford Park, Killaloe.
