Fibromyalgia is a syndrome associated with widespread pain and fatigue. There are no outward signs of the condition but symptoms include severe pain, fatigue and stiffness. One of our volunteers suffers from this condition and while doing a stained glass course with us was inspired to set up a group to support people with fibromyalgia.
Although completely new to Facebook and other social media she embraced the technology to publicise the work of the support group and invite people to participate. She has made a huge difference to many people who often feel isolated because of the fibromyalgia, a condition that is degenerative and characterised by regular flare-ups leading to much pain and discomfort. The work of the group established by this volunteer and based in the KBCFRC has resulted in the delivery of much needed support to isolated and vulnerable people and has also resulted in much positive publicity for the work of the centre.
