U13 Match report vs Ennis RFC

BKRFC U13s recorded their first win of the league with a 33-7 victory over Ennis RFC in Clarisford park. In trying conditions with torrential downpours at the start of the game, the pitch held up well as did the BKRFC defence, as Ennis owned the ball for the first 10 minutes but were unable to make any headway as the BKRFC line held well with everyone putting in strong tackles. Lifting the seige, BKRFC managed to work the ball upfield and after a couple of direct runs, breaking the gainline, the ball was passed out wide to the wing for BKRFC to round the Ennis defence and score under the posts. Two more tries followed before halftime, with BKFRC leading 19-0 at the break.

With Ennis suffering a couple of injuries and having only the 15 players, a couple of the BKRFC substitutes stepped into the breach and lined out on the Ennis side so to maintain a full 15 v 15. Special mention must go to Evan Wood who after dotting down for BKRFC, changed jersey’s to score for Ennis as well a putting a couple of try saving tackles on fellow BKRFC teammate Noel McGrath as he surged for the Ennis line.

Many thanks to Ennis and their supporters who travelled for what was an excellent game and a special thanks to all those who braved the inclement conditions on the sideline to support both sides.

U16’s v Ennis RFC

Match Report U16’s vs Ennis RFC

BKRFC U16’s today played a very good well drilled and structured Ennis RFC squad.
Unfortunately the final score ended up 60-0 but there were some great passages of play by our boys especially in the second half, they never gave up but ultimately they were unable to make that pressure turn into points.
Hard luck to the lads but well done at the same time.

U12’s at Bruff RFC

BKRFC U12s played some great rugby at Bruff RFC’s annual James Keating Memorial tournament.
They had some tough pool games, drawing 0-0 to St Senans, beating Clonmel 2-0, and narrowly losing to Old Crescent and Abbeyfeale by just one try. We thought we were going home but in 4th place we went through to the 4th place semi final. Here they came up against Newcastle West and ran out impressive winners, 3tries to nil! The boys were through to a final against Shannon!
A huge battle began where we saw some of the best tackles we have ever seen from our team. Sadly, one of the Shannon speedsters snuck through to score the only try of the match. Ballina Killaloe were closing in on the line in the dying seconds but unfortunately time ran out. A big thank you to all the boys and their parents for travelling to Bruff for the day on a Bank Holiday Monday! And thank you to Bruff RFC for inviting us along to a great day.

U12 Blitz at Estuary RFC

Ballina-Killaloe RFC U12’s travelled to Shanagolden, Co. Limerick to play teams from Estuary RFC, Young Munster & Thomond RFC.

After a slow start against Estuary and some tough, well-drilled opposition from Young Munster, the boys lifted their game against a big Thomond side to finish the morning with a win. Inspired by the All Blacks game the night before, we saw some great rucking, big tackles, lovely passing sequences and brilliant tries.

Squad: Alex Chateau, Laurent Chateau, Shane Geraghty, Ben McCarthy, Leifur O’Gorman, Gordon Wood, Ciaran Rodgers, Tom Farrell, Sean Crotty, Cillian O’Connor, Shane O’Connell, Conor Neill, Cathal Mullane.
Try Scorers: Shane Geraghty, Ben McCarthy, Ciaran Rodgers, Gordon Wood, Conor Neill, Cathal Mullane, Cillian O’Connor.
Big thanks to the boys and parents who travelled on such a big day in the Irish Rugby Calendar!

U13 Challenge match v Nenagh Ormond

Nenagh4-10

U13’s v Nenagh Ormond 4th October

Playing a challenge match before our first league game, both sides spend the first 10 minutes getting to grips with each other and the full pitch, BKRFC then managed to push it up a level and scored 3 unanswered tries through, Ronan Neill, Ruadhan Quinn and Evan Wood, all were excellently converted by Cathal O’Donnell who also tagged on a penalty to lead 24-0 at halftime. The expected repost from Nenagh came in the 2nd half which saw them score 3 tries too, however scores from Ronan Neill, Kian Donnelly and a final score in the last minute by Joe McGrath saw BK RFC finish out winners 43-19.

Girls Rugby returns

pic12

Following on from was originally planned as one evening but turned into 7 weeks, Girls rugby is returning to Ballina-Killaloe this Wednesday 9th at 7pm in the sand-based all weather pitch.

We hope we can continue with and expand on what was a very successful programme earlier in the year. Munster rugby development coach Amanda Greensmith will be in attendance but for it to continue we do require a number of parents to step up and help with the coaching and supervision. No experience in required, just the weekly commitment to help Ballina-Killaloe support the girls in what promises to be a fun, engaging and active programme.
